Castle Howard

One day all of this will be yours.
No thanks, said Mary, daughter of Castle Howard owner George, 9th Earl of Carlisle and his wife Rosalind, a leading figure in the Temperance Movement. George died in 1911, his eldest son Charles, 10th Earl, survived him by less than a year later, and Rosalind died in 1921.
Mary's refusal opened the door literally to Geoffrey Howard, a prominent Liberal MP and then to his son Geoffrey (two other sons were killed in the Second World War; Geoffrey was wounded). Today, Castle Howard is owned by a private company and is occupied by the Hon Simon Howard, one of the company's director, and his second wife Rebecca.
The main probate office for England and Wales is the Principal Registry in London.
A further 11 District Probate Registries serve major cities such as Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool, and by 18 Probate Sub-Registries. (Full list below)
Probate officials also use rooms in a court or local authority building in other locations on an as-needed basis to interview personal applicants.
